It was a great day of awareness, fundraising for important resources for those living with MG, and such great support in the MG Community. Keep the momentum going! All fundraising pages will remain open through December, so there is still time to reach all of our goals. Reach out to your family, friends, and coworkers and tell them all about your great experience at the walk (be sure to show them all the photos!), and encourage them to support you. Follow up and thank all those that did donate, and please contact the MG Walk Office for any tips on post-event fundraising.
Thank you all for an amazing day, a great event, and for coming together and doing all we can to reach the ultimate finish line…a world without myasthenia gravis!

We are thrilled to announce the 2016 Central Florida Local MG Walk Hero is…Richard Elmore!
Richard Elmore
Richard’s journey with myasthenia gravis began about 10 years ago. He woke up one morning and recalls “feeling funny”. He decided not to take any chances, and immediately went to the hospital to see what was causing his symptoms. The doctors ran extensive tests and one of the blood tests determined Richard had myasthenia gravis.

After being introduced to another person with myasthenia gravis in his area, Richard decided to attend a meeting for the Orlando Support Group. He learned a lot of valuable information on how to live his life to the fullest with MG through the Support Group. It was also where he learned about the MG Walk Campaign.

Richard immediately jumped on the opportunity to become involved with the MG Walk Campaign. When asked why he was so eager to get involved, he simply says “I’m a people person!” and he enjoys it. Richard even mentions that his love of meeting new people goes back to when he was a child. His father would tell him that he would talk to a lamp post if it would talk back to him. The MG Walk Campaign is a great way to meet others while talking about something that’s important to him. He has received incredible support from his community who have donated to him as he collects change at his local convenience store. Thanks to the generous support of those in his town, he has been able to raise thousands of dollars each year this way for the MG Walk.

Richard hopes that as the 2016 Orlando MG Walk Hero he can share his knowledge and wisdom with others in his area that need it. When asked what advice he would give to someone recently diagnosed with MG, he notes that you should adapt your lifestyle, but don’t let it take away the things you love to do!
“Just do the best you can!”
